garage workbenchPotting Bench Plans for Gardening

No complex joints, just solid boards and a handful of screws and you're on your way to building this useful garden accessory. Our garden potting bench design came from the fact that most gardeners could probably use a better system for repotting plants, but don't really want to spend a lot of time or money to find one. This project plan is the perfect solution. With a few simple hand tools and some easy-to-find materials from your local home improvement center, you can build this multi-purpose potting bench for about $100, and get the entire project done in one weekend.

We've included some great features that make repotting a breeze. A hinged panel on the right side of the benchtop lets you easily scrape unused soil into a plastic bin below. And a grated section on the left allows excess water from pots to conveniently drain into a lower tub. We used common pine lumber and galvanized deck screws throughout the project, both readily available at your local home improvement center.

If you want to locate your bench inside a greenhouse, we suggest using pressure-treated lumber. We also used a sheet of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) to get a smooth surface for the main table top, but if you prefer something more durable, you can simply substitute this section with 2 x 6s.
